5 Truths About Non-Tithers
Tithing is a practice that has been taught and emphasized in many churches for centuries. Yet, despite its prominence, some Christians still struggle to embrace this financial principle. However, what many people fail to realize is that the consequences of not tithing are far more significant than they might think. In this article, we will explore the harsh realities of a non-tither and what it truly means to neglect this critical principle.
It's essential to understand that the purpose of this article is not to condemn but to shed light on what the Bible says about tithing. It's not just about giving money; it's about honoring God with what He has given you.
The Harsh Realities of a Non-Tither:
1. A Non-Tither Is a Robber:
“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.” — Malachi 3:8 (NKJV)
Malachi 3:8 is a signature scripture used in many offering messages, yet one of the most misinterpreted. People don’t hear the verse in how God said it. The fact is this:
It doesn’t matter if you’re a praying, fasting, tongue-talking, demon-tormenting Christian. The scripture is straightforward if you don’t tithe, you’re a thief — not just any thief, a robber of God.
The curse on non-tithers works synergistically with any other curse possibly operating behind the scenes in your life. HOW MUCH MORE CAN YOU TAKE? IT IS TIME TO DO SOMETHING THAT INVOKES BLESSING! You need the blessing of a tither to counteract any curse bringing destruction and loss to your life.
2. A Non-Tither Lives Under a Curse:
When it comes to finances — according to scripture — when you don’t tithe, you bring a curse upon yourself. Let everything be a lie, but God’s Word will remain true — Malachi 3:8-10 — people who do not tithe come under the curse that comes on thieves — Zachariah 5:3-4.
Recently, I taught our congregation what a curse is. Its characterization in basic dialect is:
- A curse is like a dark shadow that follows you.
- A curse is not tangible nor visible, yet you can see its effects.
- A curse comes upon a house – not just a person.
- A curse is passed from generation to generation.
- A curse manifests itself in one area or across all areas of one’s life.
The curse on non-tithers works synergistically with any other curse possibly operating behind the scenes in your life.
3. A Non-Tither Doesn’t Put God First:
God is a jealous God and wants first place in your life. There are no two ways about it.
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” — Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)
This scripture shows that money is likened to something we serve — because this verse says we can serve God or mammon, not both. So, the conclusion is this:
You are either entirely devoted to God or obsessed and fully devoted to money.
4. A Non-Tither Serves God with Lip Service Only:
When questioning someone’s seriousness, there is a famous saying, “put your money where your mouth is!”
It’s easy to make radical statements, but it’s not so easy when someone demands that you back it up with something tangible — and this goes for all areas of life. The Bible has something similar, which says:
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
This also means that where your treasure is not (your seed, tithe, offering – or more plainly, your money), your heart isn’t either!
Show me your bank statement, and I’ll show you where your heart is.
5. A Non-Tither Fails to Trust God:
If this doesn’t shake you to the core, then I am unsure of what will. Tithing is an instruction given by God. Failure to follow the instruction proves we do not trust the one giving the instruction. God, as our Father, desires only the best for us. His Word is true, His promises are sure, and His love for us is unconditional.
Yet sometimes, we fail to trust Him with our finances — the same finances He made available to us in the first place. It’s a promise that the measure of our giving is directly related to the measure of our receiving — 2 Corinthians 9:6.
The Blessing of a Tither:
The good news is that it's never too late to start tithing, and the blessing of a tither is available to all who obey this principle. So, take heart and make the decision today to open your hand and give God access to every area of your life, including your finances!
Once you begin to tithe:
- You’re opening your hand and provoking Him to open His.
- You’re giving God the right to act on your behalf and to rebuke the devourer of your blessings.
- You’re giving God access to your finances; now, He can demonstrate supernatural provision and His multiplying abilities.
- You're giving Him access to your bank account, debt, unpaid bills, paycheck, business, and every stream of income you currently have and are meant to have.
- You’re entering the realm where God says, “Okay, child, now you can test Me!” — and watch and see Him move on your behalf.
