“Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.” Proverbs 21:23 (NIV)
The Bible contains countless scriptures which confirm the power that we carry on our lips. There are verses that speak of the power of the tongue carrying both life and death, that the words we speak today will be the fruits of our tomorrow, and so many more.
When God created the Heavens and the Earth, He spoke a word! His words carried creative ability to bring an entire universe into being, and our words carry that same creative ability. The question is, what do you say? What do you say over your children, your marriage, your finances, and your future?
The amount of Christians I know personally who prophesy their own destruction is frightening. They fall into the trap of not putting a guard over their mouth, as today’s scripture warns, and they literally speak themselves into calamity. If you know someone who complains that things never change for them, that they experience one crisis after another, and that their prayers are going unanswered, I can almost guarantee you that their tongues are responsible. Their words of death, negativity and complaining are direct contradictions to any miracle God would desire for them.
Prophetic Declaration
Every word of death that I have spoken, I cancel right now, in the Name of Jesus. Every word spoken against me by others, I strike you down! Today, I put a guard over my lips. May I only speak life, from this day forward, in Jesus Name, Amen.
